In April, in the midst of the NBA’s stoppage due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Bulls announced the hiring of Arturas Karnisovas as the team’s new executive vice president of basketball operations. He replaces John Paxson, who will now serve as a senior advisor.

Arturas Karnisovas comes to the Bulls having spent the past 3 seasons as general manager of the Denver Nuggets. Working in the Nuggets’ front office for seven seasons in total, he is credited with spearheading several decisions that have resulted in Denver becoming a Western Conference contender, including the drafting of Nikola Jokic. Also a former player, he took home Olympic medals in 1992 and 1996 as a member of the Lithuania national team, and was named European Player of the Year by FIBA in 1996.

In a statement, Bulls president and COO Michael Reinsdorf welcomed the former Nuggets general manager to the organization and expressed confidence that Karnisovas’ impressive team-building experience will benefit him in Chicago. For his part, Karnisovas described joining the franchise as a dream come true, noting that he has admired the Bulls since watching their games as a young man in Lithuania.
